Flying Southwest

This is FM 2017 in Culberson County,Texas. One of my home bases is there–The Lost Lariat Ranch.

The area is unique mix of old time cowboy life and escapees from the city ! It is still open range which means cattle, horses and donkeys, etc. roam freely!!

It is a great life on the Lost Highway✌️

Abandoned Ranch Road

Wandering around with my pal Smitty,I spot a two track, almost completely overgrown..so, we follow it towards the mountain.

Lobo Valley, Texas

We can see at one time it was well traveled. Well graveled and it was partially fenced. It had heavy wooden fixtures on either side. Signs that a lot of people once used this Road

After some research,I believe it once led to the now closed off and private Van Horn Wells.

These photos are of a half buried old strong box.

My imagination went wild…was it from an old stagecoach…did some pioneers abandon it for some reason..???

We may never know!! But, wow, what a great find🀠

Donkey Days

Here,at the Lost Lariat Ranch in Lobo, Texas…ya never know who is moving in….✌️

My faithful companion Smitty just wanted to play with them …he thought they were funny looking ponies..

You should have seen him when a young donkey started to run him down…. All is well..Smitty out ran the little donkey to the safety of our fence🀠. Such is life on the open Range ❀️

Things You Find in the Desert.

In the Chihuahuan Desert the usual things you suspect out there…are here!

Occasionally,there are surprises

🌡

Have you ever seen a vulture skull?

Me either, till my dog brought me this!! To my horror I thought it was a baby cattle skull, born with no eyes,!!

A more experienced desert rat calmed my nerves and gently explained what it really was..lol!!

This is a fixer upper long abandoned .
Not sure what this is but,it curled up and played dead when I approached.
Oasis in the deserts really do exist!! This one is gorgeous…you have to fight with the cattle for shade..lol!! Not really, but they do give you looks!

An Ink Top mushroom,! They only live for about 24 hours! They are called ink top because should you touch one,it instantly dissolved into a Black liquid.
